"Living in pain creates tension in other areas of your life; you don't need to live in pain.
Ifound my way to Massage Therapy after working in various positions in Inflight Services at United Airlines. Although I had done very well for myself, the airline industry was changing in ways I was disheartened by and I knew I wanted more out of my career. After a major restructuring, I decided to leave the airline and began my search for a completely different occupation.
I centered my career research on my passions, strengths and interests; not on my previous work experience or formal education, which interestingly enough wasn’t even in business rather in Anthropology and Art. I knew I enjoyed working with people, I was creative, a problem solver and was very good working with my hands. I had always been interested in health care and Massage Therapy was the perfect match as it also encompassed other passions and interests of mine including sports and the human body.
I quickly found my niche in Sports Massage and knew that someday I wanted to work with elite athletes. Approximately nine years into my new career and having worked on patients with wide-ranging issues, including Parkinson’s disease, I was contacted by the Professional Women’s Tennis Association. After working my first tournament, the association requested I come back to work others. Soon after, I was asked by one of their directors to become a part of the PWTA Sports Sciences Department. Working on-site with world-class physiotherapists and some of the top players in the world has been extraordinary - it's like obtaining a graduate degree in massage.
Because of what I had learned and what I was hearing from my clients, it was at this time that I began developing plans to create a holistic health center; Westport Therapeutic.
I'm elated that Massage Therapy has become such an important part of people's wellness programs and ecstatic that I am able to further bring holistic care to my patients while providing my unique brand of healing.
Specialties My work also evolved far past helping athletes perform better. I work with people that have problems, whether acute or chronic. I find it very rewarding to be able to apply all the techniques I have learned while I educate, address, and restore comfort and balance through the placement of my hands.
No JICing - Otherwise known as "just in case peeing". This weakens your pelvic muscles. Go only when you have the urge; normal is every 3-4 hours.
